SITUATE Arts Lab 2013

In 2013 fifteen early career artists and creative practitioners were selected to take part in the first SITUATE Arts Lab produced and hosted by Salamanca Arts Centre from 21 June – 5 July 2013. The Lab was held at Salamanca Arts Centre in Week 1 and then moved to the Far South Wilderness Lodge on Tasmania’s south-eastern tip. Coinciding with the first Dark MOFO Festival, the program included a Pecha Kucha style event and a Festival Director’s Forum, where the wider public gained a deeper insight into the work of participating artists and partner festivals.

Festival partners for the 2013 Arts Lab included: Darwin Festival, FRINGE WORLD Perth, MONA FOMA and Dark MOFO, WOMADelaide and Vryfees Arts Festival in South Africa (now known as Vrystaat).

Outputs from the 2013 Arts Lab include:

Vrystaat in South Africa delivered Plastic Histories, a sculptural intervention project by Cigdem Aydemir in 2014 and commissioned a participatory performance work titled The White Horse by Jess Olivieri for their 2015 Vrystaat program.

Tyrone Sheather’s responsive installation, Giidanyba (Sky Beings) will be presented as part of Dark MOFO in 2015 and Amanda Shone is working towards a project in MONA FOMA 2016.

Fringe World Perth and Darwin Festival remain in discussion with a number of other SITUATE 2013 artists.

The 2013 Arts Lab was developed by Carli Leimbach and Paul Gazzola in collaboration with Rosemary Miller and Salamanca Arts Centre.
