Bernadette Lewis is a contemporary dance artist working across performance, choreography, improvisation, education, and community engagement. Recently relocated to lutruwita/Tasmania from Boorloo/Perth, she is a WAAPA and LINK Dance graduate, and multi award winning artist. Bernadette is producer and mentor of Hidden Movements, an experimental platform for early career performance makers.

Performance highlights include Acid Trip (Off-base Dance), Foleyvision (Scott Elstermann), Sunset (Maxine Doyle for Perth Festival and STRUT Dance), Shanghai Bolero (Didier Théron), and Unearthly (with Natalie Allen for Perth Festival). Choreographic and Movement Direction highlights include The Honeymoon Suite (FRINGE WORLD 2018 winner), Oklahoma! (Black Swan State Theatre Company), and The Arsonists (Melissa Cantwell).

As an educator and community engagement artist, Bernadette has worked with Buzz Dance Theatre, Ausdance WA, Co3 Australia, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, and Propel Youth Arts, designing and delivering innovative dance programs for children and young people across metropolitan, regional, and remote communities. She has collaborated on a number of large scale projects including Experience Collider (DADAA and Circus WA for Awesome Arts Festival), Hydrodome (Stretch Arts Festival), and Chorus (Annette Carmichael).

Across the diverse aspects of her practice, she is deeply curious about transformation, adaptation, and the interconnectivity of individual and collective.

In moving to lutruwita she is seeking to deepen and expand her collaborative work in disability-led performance and interdisciplinary practice, as well as continue to develop her community-based teaching practice that invites bodies of all ages and abilities to move with ease and joy.
