HK VERMUELEN

HK Vermeulen is a trans, non-binary performance artist, choreographer, dancer and vocalist based in nipaluna. Currently, they are a teaching artist and choreographer for DRILL Performance Company, a Creative Producer for Second Echo Ensemble and Festival Coordinator for the Gathering of the Goddesses. They own the artistic company Haus of Trash, which creates, performs and celebrates Queer artistic works across lutruwita. Their most recent project is Trey Trashes Winehouse, a Queer reimagining of the music of Amy Winehouse, featuring a nine-piece band, dancers and HK on lead vocals. After it’s successful debut in 2021, the project will be touring in 2022. HK recently graduated from the Tasmanian Community Funds’ Emerging Community Leaders program and they are currently studying their Masters of Teaching. HK is passionate about truth, authenticity and how to give a platform to others to share their stories and voices. They are keenly interested in the weird and wonderful and love finding joyful moment in art.
