Sakdiyah Ma’ruf is a performing artist, cultural leaders, and mother, with practice in stand-up comedy, poetry, public speaking, literary translation, and community organizing. Sakdiyah works focuses on the intersection between comedy and women’s rights, democracy, and decoloniality. She is the founder and co-facilitator of Our Voice Comedy for Change, a feminist collective facilitating women and young people to advocate for social change through comedy and storytelling. She is also a board member of Madani International Film Festival, a leading film festival dedicated to celebrating Muslim diversity and Muslim stories from around the world, and a board member of We Speak Up, a women-led social movement building initiative. Sakdiyah lives with her husband and daughter in a bamboo house in a small village in Central Java where she is also organizing community and establishing creative space and library for children. She has been performing in Indonesia and around the world at including at Oslo Freedom Forum, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and Hearth Summit Gifu, Japan. She received international recognitions and fellowship including Vaclav Havel International Prize for Creative Dissent 2015, BBC 100 Women 2018, and Creative Australia International Arts Leaders Program 2022-2023.
