WOMADelaide, Australia’s WOMAD (World of Music, Arts & Dance) festival celebrates a momentous 25 years in 2017. Held over four days on the March long weekend in late summer in Adelaide’s extraordinary Botanic Park, the festival attracts some 95,000 attendances each year, with audiences coming from across the nation. The extensive program features performances, workshops and discussions across eight stages by the world’s best traditional and contemporary musicians, dancers, DJs, street theatre and visual artists. It also includes the Taste The World cooking program, The Planet Talks environmental discussions, the Electrolounge, Artists in Conversation, a KidZone, the WoMade design hub and over 100 food, retail and charity stalls.
2017 featured close to 70 amazing groups from 30 countries; Emir Kusturica & the No Smoking Orchestra (Serbia), Parov Stelar (Austria), Oumou Sangaré (Mali), The Specials (UK), The Manganiyar Classroom (India), Phlilip Glass Ensemble –KOYAANISQATSI LIVE!, Bebel Gilberto (Brazil), Australian stars Archie Roach, D D Dumbo and Dope Lemon and installations from French firemasters Cie Carabosse and Tyrone Sheather’s Giidanyba.
