SITUATE 24-25 DIGITAL + LIVE

SITUATE 24-25 is dedicated to developing bold and experimental work by regionally based emerging and mid-career artists from all disciplines. It prioritises artistic excellence while ensuring the process and results benefit artists. The program will explore digital and live project outcomes, working to create sustainability and reach for regional artists by exploring ways to connect with a global audience.

The theme of this two-year program explores work that exists in digital and live scenarios. This program aims to equip artists with the skills to engage with digital technology to enhance their creative vision and connect them with broader audiences nationally and internationally. The artists will be challenged to embrace new ideas, generate bold concepts, think about larger-scale projects, and approach their practice in novel ways. This program will be designed by Situate, with guidance from immersive media practitioner Claire Evans from Junior Major.

SITUATE 24-25 AIMS TO:

  • support artists in creating and presenting innovative artwork that exists in digital and live formats.

  • create authentic cultural experiences for audiences through creative placemaking and collaborative practice models.

  • create opportunities for artists to make meaningful work and advance their careers by connecting them to national and international networks.

ARTIST RECRUITMENT

The SITUATE 24-25 program will support three Tasmanian and three regionally-based National artists to participate in the two-year journey. Assisting this process are three partner organisations from across Australia: Watch This Space (NT), DADAA (WA) and Chamber Made (VIC). These organisations will help select and mentor a regional artists drawn from their networks to participate in the program.

The application process will be a mix of video and written responses and will be assessed by the SITUATE team, the partner organisations and program provocateurs.

SITUATE 24-25 PHASES

Hybrid Labs and Mentorship (April 2024 – June 2024)

The lab process refines the artist's skills and practices through the creative process, collaboration, and partnerships with a broad range of engaged stakeholders. The artists will work with a range of senior Artist Provocateurs to think about how to engage with digital as well as connect with live audiences. They will be encouraged to think big and explore ideas that push their practice into new forms. The Artist Provocateurs will be chosen to complement the participating artists.

Research and Development (June 2024 – Dec 2024)

The program's mentoring and research and development period provides essential and high-level support to the artists on an individual basis. We scaffold the artists to develop proposals for projects that are conceptually strong with high production values and that can respond to a variety of sites, audiences, and economies. We also help them fundraise and plan for creative developments and presentation outcomes.

Creative Development and Commissioning (across 2025)

In this part of the program, we assist artists in elevating their work to respond to, engage with and build upon the unique opportunities that their regional location provides while also thinking about how to connect in the digital space.

Presentation (across 2025 and beyond).

If the work gets to a presentation outcome, we help the artist produce the work in a festival or with a presentation partner.
